Protection Information Management (PIM) Intern

Job Responsibilities

  • The intern will receive mentorship and on-the-job training to build capacity in humanitarian information management, including hands-on exposure to DRC systems and tools.  
  • Support data collection, entry, cleaning, and validation across case management, protection monitoring, and referrals. 
  • Maintain and update protection databases (e.g., Kobo, Excel, Power BI) and ensure data accuracy and completeness. 
  • Assist in the development of dashboards, factsheets, and internal reports to inform program quality and decision-making. 
  • Participate in field-level data collection and assessments, where feasible. 
  • Ensure adherence to data protection and confidentiality standards, especially for sensitive protection data. 
  • Organize and archive key program documentation, including reports, assessment tools, and case records. 
  • Contribute quality assurance processes, identifying and flagging data gaps or inconsistencies. 
  • Translate data findings into actionable insights to inform protection responses and advocate for the needs of vulnerable groups. 
  • Help ensure age, gender, and diversity (AGD) considerations are reflected in protection data analysis 
  • Support training and capacity-building efforts on protection of IM tools and principles for staff and partners. 
  • Assist in compiling lessons learned and knowledge products to support learning and accountability. 
  • Perform other IM-related tasks assigned by the supervisor 

Skills

  • Basic understanding of Information Management (IM) concepts, including the data lifecycle (collection, storage, analysis, reporting, and protection).
  • Demonstrated interest in humanitarian protection and data management.
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel (required); exposure to KoboToolbox, Power BI, or similar platforms is an asset
  • Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially and ethically.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in Somali and working proficiency in English.
  • Commitment to DRC’s values of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and accountability.
  • Recent graduate with a degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, International Development, or a related field. 
  • Completion of short courses in Protection Information Management (PIM), data protection, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), Kobo Toolbox, or Microsoft Excel is considered an asset. 
  • Previous short-term experience or placement in information management or data management roles is highly desirable 
  • English and Somali language
